de daumier-smith's blue period: Hey - maybe it's okay that Smith doesn't wants its MALE students hosting female prospective students.

Tonight I found out that…
Although my two-cents means little, I have to add that when I was a gold key and my prospective students spent time with me and my then boyfriend, both in my house and in his Friedman, I did not at any point feel that we were acting out of line, or that my prospies were “put-off” by the fact that their host happened to be dating a transman. I recognize that hanging out with a trans guy is different than being hosted by one, but I think we underestimate the mental facilities of our prospective students if we don’t think they can handle the diversity of their prospective college. Suggesting that being hosted by a transperson is a possible legal issue strikes me as absurd considering the existence of coed dorm, camps, and apartment complexes— mods at Hampshire are coed. Does that mean that students who live in those mods can’t host prospectives? I think not.
